Savill Drives Off With Ford Hot Shots Win

CALGARY, March 7, 2009 -- Ontario's Craig Savill drove off in style here at the Tim Hortons Brier this morning, making a perfect double takeout with his last rock to win the Ford Hot Shots skills competition.

Savill, lead for Ontario's Glenn Howard, took five points for executing the perfect double-takeout to edge NWT/Yukon's Martin Gavin 24-22 in the Ford Hot Shots final.

With the victory, Savill wins a two-year lease on a 2009 Ford F-150 XLT 4 x 4, with a retail value of over $20,000. The F-150 was recently named the 2009 Motor Trend Truck of the Year.

"I got lucky," Savill said of his final shot, "I closed my eyes and hoped for the best."

Gavin received $2,000 for finishing second, while Alberta skip Kevin Martin finished third and earned $1,000.

Savill said he will use the new truck as an opportunity to get rid of an aging Honda Civic. "It's long overdue," Savill said. "It's rusting out."

Savill was asked if he will share his good fortune with his Ontario teammates. "They can ride in the back," he laughed.
