Countdown to the 2009 Tim Hortons Brier
CALGARY, February 2, 2009... The countdown to the 2009 Tim Hortons Brier, March 7-15 at the Pengrowth Saddledome in Calgary, begins today, as the men's provincial championship in Woodstock, Ontario gets underway.
By February 22, all 12 teams, representing the 10 provinces plus Northern Ontario and Yukon/Northwest Territories for the 80th edition of the Canadian men's curling championship, will be determined.
This is the fifth year that Tim Hortons, the largest quick service restaurant chain in Canada, has sponsored the Brier. Calgary, which will be staging its sixth Brier, last hosted the championship in 2002, when it was won by Alberta's Randy Ferbey, who then went to capture the Ford world men's title in Bismarck, North Dakota.
The Canadian Curling Association website (www.curling.ca or www.seasonofchampions.ca) will provide summaries of each championship as the winners are declared. Provincial curling association/federation websites offer links to draw results and other event information.
